Wetherby celebrates ARBED win!

Wetherby has been commissioned to supply EWI on over 1400 properties across Mid & North Wales as part of The Arbed 2 scheme, a £45 million project funded jointly by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Welsh Government.

The project aims to improve the energy efficiency of over 5,000 social and privately owned homes in Wales. Wetherby’s involvement in the regeneration of 1400 of these homes will see homeowners benefitting from energy saving initiatives, such as EWI, boiler upgrades and loft insulation. Commencing in summer 2013, the project will look to be completed at the end of March 2014.

Wetherby was selected as a preferred partner following an intense tender process and granted the contract, amongst other criteria, due to its ability to source local products and employ local contractors. Wetherby also stated that it will be looking to recycle all product off-cuts resulting in a ‘zero waste’ policy.

Installing locally manufactured mineral fibre external wall insulation; homeowners will save a vast amount of money on their heating bills, thereby creating a more economic and attractive living environment for communities.

Wetherby made a commitment to keeping Welsh projects ‘local’ a number of years ago, when it invested in a distribution depot in Maesteg. The Arbed 2 projects in selected areas of mid and North Wales to include Holywell, Holyhead, Llay and Nantlle are now set to receive the same first class service, to help ensure that there are no issues with product supply when meeting tight deadlines during the regeneration process.

John Armstrong, supply chain manager at Wetherby, commented: “This is a fantastic win for the company and we are extremely committed to keeping everything local and environmentally friendly throughout the project.”

“The communities involved will not only save money on energy bills but their homes will also be thermally and aesthetically transformed, thus creating desirable residential areas and increasing the value of their properties which will benefit the towns included in the Arbed scheme.”

Wetherby will work alongside the Welsh Assembly, Willmott Dixon Energy Services and Sustainable Building Systems UK during this regeneration phase, and will ensure that EWI is expertly designed, managed & installed on each property.
