Industry Leadership

40+ years in the EWI industry

A £13m redevelopment to transform the home of Welsh Premier League side Aberystwyth Town has recently been completed with the help of Wetherby’s Rail Fix EWI System.

Aberystwyth Town, founded in 1884 is one of the oldest football club’s in Wales and a founder member of the Welsh Premier League. The improvements to the Park Avenue ground will feature a new all-weather 3G pitch, 500 seat stand, clubhouse, restaurant and 33 adjacent residential flats.

Tai Ceredigion were appointed to design the football grounds along with the layout for the 33 apartments located on the former Astroturf pitch to the rear of the Rhun Owens Stand and adjacent to the riverside walk. Joyner Group and WRW Construction collaborated with Tai Ceredigion throughout the project specifying Wetherby’s Rail Fix System.

Wetherby’s Rail Fix system incorporates a drainage cavity; by using this method it allows the steel frame structure to remain dry protecting the building from any potential weather damage, whilst allowing the frame to breathe. This was followed by Stone Wool insulation in a thickness of 100mm throughout to maximise thermal performance. The building was then reinforced with a basecoat and 1.5mm Silicone ‘K’ Render in White to provide a flexible high impact finish.

Chairman of Aberystwyth Town, Tony Bates commented on the project; “the driving force behind the ambitious project, said the facility was for the benefit of the whole community.”

“The club is encouraging local clubs, schools and university groups to take advantage of the state-of-the-art all-weather surface.”

“I am thrilled that after overcoming so many hurdles, this project has finally come to fruition,”

“There is no question that the club and wider community will all benefit greatly from this much-needed facility.”

Steve Jones, chief executive of Tai Ceredigion said: “In addition, we have already been building new homes – many purpose built for disabled, elderly and vulnerable individuals.

“By working with the Ceredigion County Council’s housing options team, we can use our development and housing management expertise to provide top quality homes where the need is high.”

“With disabled access accommodation available on each floor of the building — and parking on ground level — it is hoped the development will provide much-needed homes in the town.”
