Industry Leadership

40+ years in the EWI industry

Built in the 1960’s these non traditional Bison Beam maisonettes were cold, draughty and in need of a face lift. North Lincolnshire Homes wanted a solution that would not only give a new look to the estate but one that would give their tenants warmer homes that were cheaper to heat, in these times of economic downturn.

Michael Dyson Associates Limited were appointed as lead consultant and specified a Wetherby External Wall Insulation system via a price and quality procurement process. They commented that the Wetherby team played an important part in the success of the scheme.

50mm Phenolic insulation was mechanically fixed to the existing substrate, creating a tea cosy effect, to prevent heat escaping from the walls. Next a layer of Wetherby Basecoat was applied to the insulation and a strengthening alkali resistant mesh was bedded into this and left to dry. Once dry a further tight layer of basecoat was applied ensuring all the alkali resistant mesh was covered, this was smoothed and left to dry in preparation for the final finishing coat.

Wetherby 1.5mm Silicone ‘K’ Render tinted in bright shades including, blue, lilac and yellow was used to give a modern appearance to the maisonettes, with Miramar Brick Slip and Miramar coloured render panels providing a contrast against the brightly coloured render. Miramar Brick Slips were also used on the ground floor areas to help prevent against impact damage.

Residents had a hand in the design of the scheme via a series of workshops and were delighted not only with the final product, but also the way the works had been carried out with minimum disruption to their daily routine. Regular site inspections carried out by the Wetherby team ensures work is always to a high standard and help and advice is offered on site when required.

North Lincolnshire Homes commented “It is very pleasing to see the work being carried out across the area. This project will have huge benefits for our tenants in terms of increasing energy efficiency in their homes and of course decreasing their energy bills, as well as improving the aesthetic feel of the areas too.”
