Wetherby A2 EWI system with Stone Wool insulation
Two multi-storey tower blocks; Poplar House and Broom House are the latest high rise developments in Langley, Slough to undergo a major transformation after a review into the safety of their existing cladding.
Slough Borough Council set out to assess the safety of all their high rise buildings by compiling a fact-file on Slough’s social housing blocks to enact new safety measures. This will ensure they are all compliant with the latest industry standards for high rise external wall systems.
Osborne Property Services were the main contractors for this development working in partnership with Cornerstone. Each block was stripped of its existing external wall insulation which consisted of approximately 1800m² of wall area to each building.
Each 11 storey block was specified with Wetherby’s A2 external wall system complete with stone wool Insulation in a thickness of 100mm. This system was chosen due to its superior fire performance capabilities along with its excellent thermal & acoustic properties. Stone Wool Insulation is a consistent density, high strength, rock mineral wool slab with a water repellent additive specifically designed for use in external wall insulation systems. Thermal performance can be maximised whilst also ensuring it has increased long term compressive strength capabilities and high impact resistance making it ideal for use behind our Silicone ‘K’ 1.5mm Render. Both the blocks were given a completely new facelift with white and a bold red (pantone 201c) silicone render.
The finish has not only transformed the look of the building but will now give the residents piece of mind that their homes are safe as well as thermally efficient. Each block has also received a 25 year insurance backed guarantee providing further comfort for Slough Borough Council.
