The Eccleston Avenue Estate had a very poor reputation due to the unfortunate unattractiveness of its concrete houses. Cheshire West & Chester Council set out to insulate the properties to Decent Homes standard and give them an attractive new makeover that would completely change the look and feel of the estate.
A Wetherby Insulation System incorporating 50mm Phenolic insulation was chosen for the properties. However, as the concrete panels that form the structure of the Cornish Properties were very thin and to ensure the correct type of fixing was chosen to fix the insulation to the panels, a specialist from Fischer Fixings visited site to conduct a series of mechanical pull out tests. Following this and due to the unusual construction type, the concrete panels first needed to be packed with EPS insulation cut to size to provide a flat surface that the Phenolic insulation could be fixed to.
Once the Phenolic insulation had been fixed, a Wetherby Spar Dash finish in ‘Classic’ was applied to the upper floors of the properties with Wetherby ‘Estepona’ Brick Slips applied to ground floor levels to help protect against impact damage and give a warm traditional feel. New Wetherby GRP Canopies completed the look of a modern fresh estate.
The U-values of the properties were dramatically reduced from 2.21W/m²K to 0.31W/m²K.
