Transformation of Cwrt Severn, Caldicot for Monmouthshire Housing
We are proud to have been part of the impressive transformation of Cwrt Severn, a residential building in Caldicot, designed for older persons, which has undergone a significant upgrade. This project, completed for Monmouthshire Housing, involved a comprehensive refurbishment of 31 one and two-bedroom apartments, with the focus on improving energy efficiency and resident comfort.
The Wetherby A1-rated Direct Fix system was installed on the masonry building to enhance the façade and provide a much-needed energy efficiency uplift. To tackle thermal bridging issues, the ground floor flats were fitted with Wetherby’s below damp-proof course insulation, finished with a decorative mica coating for added durability and aesthetics.
Additional upgrades included the installation of solar panels, new energy-efficient windows, power-assisted front and rear doors, fire doors, and ramped access to the rear fire escapes. These enhancements not only improve the overall safety and accessibility of the building but also contribute to its long-term sustainability.
The project benefitted from the expertise of Everwarm and subcontractor Elite Rendering Systems, who expertly installed the Wetherby external wall insulation system. This retrofit marks Monmouthshire Housing’s first energy-saving initiative, providing residents with warmer homes that are cheaper to run.
Thanks to these upgrades, the homes at Cwrt Severn have seen their average EPC rating leap from C to A. Additionally, residents will enjoy year-on-year savings and a remarkable 82% reduction in their carbon footprint, aligning with the UK’s broader environmental goals.
