Exeter Trust House is a purpose built student accommodation block offering a selection of cluster flats, studios and micro pads giving students the opportunity to share accommodation or live independently.
Only a 2 minute walk to the city centre, Exeter Trust House is conveniently located for the city’s bars, clubs and shops and the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus is a mere 15 minute walk away.
The accommodation is constructed from modular pods which are manufactured at the Client’s facility in Stroud. The pods are delivered to site complete and fully furnished including a shower pod, bed, furniture, carpet and curtains, with cables and sockets pre-wired and ready for connection.
Once the pods were craned into position the Wetherby Insulated Render System was applied. The system incorporated 100mm mineral wool insulation to ensure a low U-value of just 0.25W/m²K meaning the accommodation would be well insulated and cheap to heat. This was followed by a basecoat and 1.5mm silicone K in various pastel shades to give a striking modern appearance to the building.
The smaller accommodation block was built using the timber frame method of construction. As increased structural movement is normally anticipated in timber frame structures Wetherby has designed specific slip joints to allow the system to move with the building without losing the seamless façade appearance most specifiers are looking for in modern construction.
The lightweight flexible finishes offered by Wetherby also reduce the need for expansion joints in the render.
