A multi million pound project in Chesterfield has undergone extensive internal and external improvements to transform the look of the estate and improve the energy efficiency of all the dwellings. This comes as part of a wider scope to deliver innovative refurbishment projects across the town.
Chesterfield Borough Council has made a commitment to provide affordable quality housing across the borough and this includes making improvements to their existing housing stock to create modern, attractive and energy efficient places to live.
The Grangewood Estate features 21 low rise blocks of flats that have had insulation, new windows and all communal areas upgraded to each property to improve the thermal efficiency and safety of the homes. These improvements will see more than 150 residents benefit from long term energy savings and give them a new sense of pride in where they live.
Westville Group and Fortem Solutions Ltd collaborated throughout for all the works on this project and when it came to the external façade of the properties, Wetherby Building System’s Thin Coat Render System was specified as the right choice for the project.
Wetherby Silicone Render in 1.5mm was used to cover the external façade due to the versatility and endless colour options available. This meant there was no need to compromise on the finish and the bold colours selected (0505-G-90-Y / 3050-Y-80-R / 3502-R) not only give these blocks a new lease of life but have provided perfect colour consistency throughout the scheme. The residents can also be rest assured that they will now benefit from warmer, weather resistant homes.
Councillor Chris Ludlow, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for housing, said:
“We’re really pleased that the works on the Grangewood estate are complete. A key part of our housing strategy is to ensure that our homes are of excellent quality and that we create attractive, modern places that people choose to live and we feel that this has been achieved through this project as it has improved the whole look and feel of the estate. Before works started, we consulted with our tenants and their feedback has been taken in to account to ensure that homes in the area meet their expectations and housing needs. Despite the challenges following the outbreak of Covid-19, the council’s main contractor, Fortem Solutions Ltd. has continued to work safely on site to ensure that the project could be delivered on time.”
Karle Rhodes, Business Development Manager at Westville Group, said:
“We are tremendously proud of this project which has made significant improvements to the area. Working alongside Wetherby Building Systems Ltd and Fortem Solutions Ltd has been a successful collaboration with huge efforts made from all parties to enable the scheme to be delivered on time and on budget despite the additional challenges of 2020. The completion of the project has not only left residents proud of their estate but they will now reap the benefits from annually reduced energy bills and fire resistant homes.”
