Unite the Union have given a major refurbishmentto their new Head Quarters in Liverpool city centre and, in memory of the former general secretary of the T&GWU, have renamed the building Jack Jones House.
The architect, Denovo, specified that not only should the building be thermally efficient it should also tone in with the sandstone of the nearby Town Hall. A Wetherby Insulated Render System incorporating 80mm EPS insulation was the perfect choice.
To replicate stone slabs a v-groove was formed in some of the EPS insulation slabs during manufacture. The EPS was mechanically fixed to the concrete panel substrate followed by a K&A basecoat. A layer of 1.5mm Wetherby Silicone ‘K’ was applied over the basecoat, tinted in a shade carefully chosen to replicate sandstone. Final U-value 0.35W/m²K.
The new look of this iconic property, which occupies a key gateway location on the main approach to the city centre from the M62, will have a significant impact on the area and will promote the profile of Unite the Union.
