The long awaited changes to the governments Green Deal cash-back scheme has finally been announced.
The Green Deal is a government backed scheme to help reduce the UK’s carbon emissions, by improving the energy efficiency of our homes. Many houses in the UK are poorly insulated and have inefficient heating systems. As a result, people have high energy bills, whist living in draughty buildings that leak vast amount of heat.
The recent announcement states that there has been a positive increase in the cash-back available for the customer. This has jumped from 50% to two thirds, with up to £4000 now available for Solid Wall Insulation from £650. However, the Green Deal cash-back will not be applicable to any projects that are linked to ECO.
The Department for Energy and Climate Change has given a three month extension for applications to the scheme. Customers will have the opportunity to submit applications up until the end of June for the chance to have energy saving measures installed to their homes.
Energy and Climate Change Minister Greg Barker said:
“The extension and increase to Green Deal cash-back means more families will be helped to have warmer, more energy efficient homes and lower energy bills by next winter. These changes also create more opportunities for the growing number of authorised green deal companies.”
