Government Sets Ambitious Carbon Emissions Reduction Target
DECC has this morning announced that the Government is accepting the recommendation of the Committee on Climate Change and setting a target to reduce carbon emissions.
Amber Rudd accepted the advice of the government’s statutory climate advisers, setting a target on Thursday of reducing carbon emissions 57% by 2030 on 1990 levels.
The legally binding “fifth carbon budget” laid in parliament today is tougher than the carbon emissions target the UK is signed up to as part of the European Union, which requires a 40% cut by 2030 on 1990 levels. However, this could be promising for the EWI industry. Solid Wall Insulation, along with other energy efficiency solutions would contribute to reaching these targets.
Barrie Stanley, ECO Manager at Wetherby Building Systems Ltd commented; “Great news that we are still committed to carbon reduction long term. However, 75% of Cavity Wall properties are fully insulated; yet only 5% of Solid Wall homes have insulation. This disparity can only be fixed with consistent increases in Solid Wall Insulation funding programmes”
