SHADOW EMPLOYMENT MINISTER OPENS WETHERBY’S NEW £80k BRIDGEND OPERATION
Labour Shadow Minister for Employment and MP for Torfaen, Nick Thomas-Symonds, along with Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, today opened a new distribution and training facility that will benefit both the local community and wider South Wales region.
Leading solid wall insulation (SWI) provider, Wetherby Building Systems, has invested £80,000 in a new trade centre, distribution depot and training facility in Bridgend. The new centre will not only provide improved delivery services to its customers across South Wales and into the West Country and London, but also offer a vital training facility for the region.
A previously vacant unit, Wetherby has converted the 10,000 sq ft space to meet its specialist requirements. In addition to a trade counter and state-of-the-art showroom, the new depot boasts a dedicated training centre, which houses a large technical training area, as well as a practical training space to enable trainees to experience the situations they will encounter on site.
The new training centre allows Wetherby to deliver its training programmes to existing operatives within the industry looking to upskill, as well as aiding the transfer of skills from other industries. The SWI provider will also be working with local colleges to provide training modules for relevant courses to ensure there are more skilled trades professionals entering the industry.
Wetherby specifically chose the location on the Brynmenyn Industrial Estate in Bridgend due to its excellent motorway links, ensuring it is well situated to get deliveries to site as quick as possible, as well as being easily accessible for customers.
Commenting on the opening, Nick Thomas Symonds said: “Wetherby’s new operation is great news for the construction industry in South Wales. This new training centre will open up more opportunities to the region’s young people looking to get their foot on the construction career ladder.”
Discussing its new depot, Wetherby’s managing director, Bob Deane, said: “We are very excited about the new operation in South Wales, this is the biggest investment we have made in a regional branch outside of our head office and it promises to be very successful for us.
“There are a lot of important regeneration projects being undertaken in South Wales and the West Country and it is important we can service these projects efficiently. We are looking forward to delivering a first class service, combing product knowledge and expertise, quick deliveries and training support, to projects across the region and beyond.”
