Following 12 hours of trekking, the Wetherby Wanderers yesterday reached Everest Base Camp. A fantastic achievement for the team.
The last couple of days have apparently been a struggle with quite a few of them having dizzy spells and altitude sickness, so they have been checked over by the Trek doctors.
Unfortunately, one of the team Nicola had started to suffer with severe hypothermia and altitude sickness and as her condition was considered critical, they took no chances. She was helicoptered out and currently under observation in Kathmandu hospital. We wish her all the very best for a speedy recovery.
After a very cold night with temperatures falling to minus 15 degrees in their rooms overnight, they have now started their 3,000ft descent to Pheriche. What took 7 days to get there will only take 4 days going back. Long days and many miles but all in the right direction.
